An angry customer feels wronged and unheard. They’re not (usually) attacking the tech personally — they’re reacting to a problem. The instinct to defend yourself makes it worse; the skill is to lower the temperature first, then solve. Your calm is contagious, and so is your defensiveness.
If a customer becomes abusive or threatening, techs should disengage and leave — no job is worth their safety. Set this expectation clearly so techs know they’re backed.
Most on-site anger traces to broken expectations — a missed window, a surprise charge, a job that needs a redo. Proactive communication prevents most of it (communication SOP, arrival windows). Train the response in your huddle with role-play.
Sometimes anger becomes a bad review anyway. Respond calmly and publicly to show future customers you handle problems well (complaint scripts). Tailwind gives unhappy customers a private channel to reach you first, so more anger gets resolved before it ever hits Google — see how it works.
Defuse the tough moments, protect your reputation. See how Tailwind works.
