SBA programs, rates, and rules change — verify current details with the SBA and lenders. This isn’t financial or legal advice.
The SBA 7(a) is the Small Business Administration’s flagship loan program. The SBA doesn’t lend directly — it guarantees a portion of a loan made by a bank or approved lender, which lowers the lender’s risk and lets them offer better terms than they otherwise could. It’s used for working capital, equipment, real estate, refinancing debt, or acquiring a business.
7(a) rates are typically tied to a base rate (like the prime rate) plus a lender spread, within SBA caps — generally more favorable than unsecured business loans. Terms are long: often up to 10 years for working capital/equipment and up to 25 years for real estate, which keeps payments manageable. There are SBA guarantee fees to factor in. Confirm current rate caps and fees.
SBA loans are not fast. Expect weeks to a few months from application to funding, depending on the lender, loan size, and how ready your paperwork is. “SBA Preferred Lenders” can move quicker. Plan ahead — this is not emergency money.
An SBA loan funds expansion — more trucks, more techs, more capacity — but that capacity only pays off if the jobs come in. Reviews drive the demand that fills your new capacity and services the debt. Tailwind builds that reputation automatically — see how it works.
